Do all women lose their hymen their first time?

I’m sure we’ve all heard the term “popping her cherry”. Many cultures and people believe that you can tell if a women has had sex by seeing if her hymen is broken.

But that simply isn’t the case.

The hymen is often thought of a tissue that covers the entirety of your vagina but in reality it is more like a door frame with an opening to allow fluids like your menstrual fluids and discharge to pass through. In fact it is possible to have sex and not break your hymen if the penis is gentle enough.

It is also possible to break your hymen in a multitude of way besides sex. You can break your hymen while inserting tampons, horseback riding, playing sports, bike riding, and doing any activity that puts pressure on your vagina. Also your hymen deteriorates as you grow up and naturally wears down. A lot of people don’t even notice when their hymen breaks.

So don’t worry about losing your virginity because of people being able to check your hymen. That just isn’t true. Virginity is just a social construct.
